Vale Barry Hughes

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Barry Hughes, a much loved member of our Rams community.

Barry’s contribution to our club spanned decades and left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. A former player, he was a two time Reserves Best & Fairest winner in 1963 and 1964, and later served as our 2nd U18s coach. His dedication extended far beyond the field — Barry spent many years on the committee before stepping into the role of Club President in 1994 and 1995.
In recognition of his outstanding service, Barry was awarded Life Membership in 1975.
Barry was the driving force behind many initiatives that shaped the club we know today. He started the beer booth and food outlet from the downstairs container, and he was instrumental in establishing our Friday night fundraising traditions – beginning with the Goose Club and eventually leading to the Joker Jackpot. He also played a major role in the fit out of the upstairs social club, helping create a space that has brought our community together for years.
If something needed doing around the club, Barry was always the first to put his hand up. His work ethic, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the Rams will never be forgotten.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who shared time with him at the club. Barry’s legacy will live on in the spirit of the Rams.
