President Report Season 2015 Review

Dear Families,

The East Burwood Junior Football Club has thrived this year thanks to the efforts of everyone in the club. Thank you to all the coaches, team managers, helpers, sponsors, committee members and especially the players for a season that saw our club grow in so many ways.

Some points to highlight:

  • Our sponsorship doubled from the previous year enabling EBJFC to record a small profit financially. We start the 2016 season in a positive position financially.
  • Player registrations were up on the 2014 levels with positive predictions for 2016.
  • A new website has been launched and “Football Curriculum” developed.
  • We now have 5 basketball teams and a netball team playing under the EBJFC name.

These are just some of the positive outcomes that have been achieved this year and we are really excited about some of the programs we have planned for 2016.

Over the past 12 months we have welcomed new committee members but sadly some of these people are no longer able to continue in their roles. We thank Sue Howells and Anna Alfirenko for all their work this year. John Brady is also stepping down after 7 years as our Secretary. John’s expertise, service and unwavering support is quite remarkable over the recent history of the club. Thank you particularly to John for his leadership and guidance to or EBJFC community. We now embark on the 2016 campaign and planning has already begun.

Positions on the 2015/16 committee will be decided upon at the next committee meeting – Tuesday 2 September 7.30pm in the club rooms. We need help in the following areas:

  • Marketing / sponsorship / publicity / promotions
  • Fun / fundraising
  • Finances / record keeping / administrative task

If you have skills in these areas we really need your help. You do not have to commit to hours of work simply take on a task e.g. organise a promotional day at a local fete or run a sausage sizzle at Bunnings. Your job done for the year! If we can get 10 people to take on smaller tasks the workload is shared and our club prospers. If you can help but can’t make the meeting please ring Andy Worner on 0449 967 637 or Peter Begley on 0447 115 037.

Next year the major project we will be working towards is making our club the leader in the EFL in terms of first aid and player safety. The committee has adopted a program to employ a dedicated paramedic at every home game for all our teams. As part of this program our trainers will receive advanced professional development so they are better prepared to deal with injuries no matter where a match is being played. This is vital in ensuring the best possible care for our playing group. Our mission is to improve the club in every possible area – player safety is paramount and next year this will be our focus.

To support this initiative the club has prepared a submission to “Holden Home Ground Advantage” for financial support. To view the submission please click on the link below and share this with your friends. The more hits we get the better our case and our message of player safety will be promoted.

As a committee we feel very strongly about this initiative and have confidence that families will value this program set to provide the best medical care available. A small medical levy will be introduced next year to cover this program amounting to less than $1.50 per game. The club has committed to find the rest through sponsorship and fundraising.

Thank you for a wonderful season highlighted at the Presentation Night recently with a magnificent attendance from Auskick to U/14 level. Last Friday night our Under 17 team attended the Morris Medal and what a wonderful celebration! An exceptionally well organised and attended event linking our proud history with a strong future. Congratulations to Lachie Quaiffe our 2015 Morris Medallist.

The one thing we can all do to help our club over the off season is to promote what we are trying to achieve – to create a family friendly club that promotes and develops community sport.

I look forward to seeing you all on our registration day to be held in October – further details out soon.

Go Rams!!!!!
