Season Opener – 3 from 3
Round 1 for the Reserves and Seniors, and round 3 for the Under 19s (U19s vs Blackburn was scheduled for round 3, but they very kindly agreed to play it early) proivded every one with some excellent, close and gritty football.
It was a going to be a tough game against the 2019 U19 Permiers in the EFNL Permier Division, with the Rams promoted from Division 2. In the end the Rams got over the line by one point after Blackburn hit the post kicking into an open goal with the final score 6.8-44 to 6.7-43. It was fantastic to see the car park full and lots of Blackburn supports there to see the game.
The Reserves also had a tough game although the scoreboard says otherwise. The Whitehorse Pioneers played good hard football and really kicked into gear in the 3rd qtr. It was also great to see the Whitehorse Pioneers again, as they play good hard football and that was reflected in an exciting match.
The Seniors teams have not played each other since the 18th Aug, 2018 and the Pioneers took home the point both time we played them that season so it was going to be a big test. The Pioneers were in the lead for 3 qtrs with very accurate scoring, but in the end the RAMs got over the line 8.11-59 to 9.2-56. The game was more great footy and a great way to spend a sauturday night, with a great ground, good food and fantastic atmosphere. All this under the new lights installed at East Burwood Reserve for the first night game.
It was great to see Blackburn and Whitehorse players hang around after the game and head upstairs for some live music and a few refreshments.
Keep an eye on the social calendar for the next big night after our next home game against Glen Waverley on Aug 24th where will will have an iPod Shuffle night. I hope that means music and dancing, and better music what the guy who does the video puts on the speakers outside 😉
